they probably could have come up with a better name, but... its fucking Star Wars. and this time around you get to play as Darth Vader's secret apprentice. How much more badass can that get? I can't wait to pick people, throw them around, and then zap them all at the same time. also the Euphoria engine and DMM together look awesome. This will hold me over until KOTOR III.

Soul Caliber 4 will end up being broken just like 2 and 3 were. While I think it's somewhat cool that they're adding Yoda, Vader and Vader's apprentice, I sense people will whore the shit out of them online. However, at tournaments all Star Wars characters will most likely be prohibited due to obvious reasons.

They recently released a new video about The Force Unleashed, I think it went live on the 23rd. They give you warning that the video contains spoilers to some of the characters and a bit about the plot. I couldn't help myself and watched it. I know quite a bit about the Star Wars universe. I've read quite a few comics and books to know enough about what happens before and after the six episode saga that we know of. There were a few interesting questions that I thought up after seeing the video. If anyone else saw it, I'd like to hear/see what you thought of it and a few topics in correlation.

Were you expecting the graphics to be out of this world or something?
It's not that type of game where they want the graphics to be the highlight of the game. The physics are Just okay? Haha, you must not have experimented with what you can do. Keep in mind this is only the demo, and a very short one at that. Perhaps the physics aren't mind shattering, but they are revolutionizing a new type of physics that have never been in ANY game to this day.

I'm not say this demo is flawless or deserves a 10/10, but it's not bad at all.
I'd probably give it a 7.5/10.

I can't block while moving? I can't move whilst doing a force grip? Quicktime events? I can't throw my lightsaber? I'm supposed to be a badass Jedi/Sith, yet what's the point of using a lightsaber when I can just throw anyone who's within a 100 yards away.

And the camera is fucking terrible.

Were you expecting the graphics to be out of this world or something?

I expected better than darklit corridors.

Oh yes I can throw convienently placed crates and barrels at people. And I can pick up people. I played the shit out of the Jedi Knight series, nothing they're doing here is new, or even exciting.

Keep in mind this is only the demo, and a very short one at that.

And the purpose of the demo is to raise interest in the game and get people to buy it. I wouldn't put down full price for a game like this after the demo.

Perhaps the physics aren't mind shattering, but they are revolutionizing a new type of physics that have never been in ANY game to this day.

They're hardly revolutionizing anything. GTA IV used the Eurphoria engine, countless games have used Havok. FU just combined the two. Big whoop.

Lol @ Vizard. You aren't allowed to criticize games now?

This is one of the most floaty games I have ever played. You feel so disconnected. The lightsaber combat just seems tacked on, really. I think most of my complaints have already been covered by Eamonn.

I loved Jedi Knight - #2 especially. The lightsaber combat in that was about 100x better than this game - and it was made 6-7 years ago! Is that not disappointing?

The physics are fun but not as great as they are being made out to be. I mean, I unhinged one of those beams that you're meant to destory the tie fighters with - and the tie fighter just bounced off it. What?? Also, I threw a canister/box and someone at nothing happened. No damage. Absolutely nada. Most of what you see in this game could be achieved using canned animations anyway, too.

The most annoying thing is this game could've been great if it was made properly. They should have looked at how other action games did it.

It's kinda like they bought the havok engine etc. and then decided to make the game AROUND the physics - not actually working the physics into a good game. You can't even do THAT much with it, though.

Not really suprising I spose. Most games that are delayed as long as this game has been usually end up a little broken.

Some of you folks are judging the game pretty hard based off of 5-10 minutes of gameplay.

First of all, I don't think the engines were meant to be the focal point of the game. Sure, they've been pumping ths shit out of them for a while now. But actually playing the game, they seem to be a a kind of added bonus to running around making a mess. Now, when you make a mess, it looks like a mess. Instead of looking like a canned animation mess.

Second. The graphics are not bad at all. In fact I thought they were pretty good. And even if you didn't like them: All you're seeing is a fraction of a level. A level that happens to be indoors. And imperial. Imperial backdrops are hideous.

Last. As with the above, this was only a fraction of a level. And an even smaller part of the game itself. You don't have all of the force powers, combos, abilities, etc. They intentional don't put everything in a demo. So complaining about the lack of this and that in a demo is pretty shortsighted.

I'l be the first to admit I was underwhelmed by the demo. Mostly because I've been waiting 3 years for this game. But I'm not about to say the finished product will be a piece of shit because of that.

Well that demo was pretty fun. Seems like battles could be a little less chaotic, and that would be more fun. It really doesn't 'feel' like you are hitting people with your lightsaber, if that makes any sense. I played through it three or four times though, so I guess that means I dug it. Probably going to be a rental, I'm done buying games I think.

I think this is when you know a game is going to be just another crap on the mountain of shit games. Instead of focusing on quality, they focus on porting and cutting the game over to as many platforms as possible for the biggest possible cash flow.

This argument might be valid. Except for the fact that the PS3/360 versions were both developed exclusively by Lucasarts. And the PS2/PSP/Wii versions were developed by Krome studios. And the DS version is being handled by n-Space.

So your logic there falls flat on it's face.

I don't know, man. Seems to me like you just have a huge bug up your ass. Because this game falls far from the "mountain of shit games" category you're lumping it into. Quite to the contrary, it's actually pretty decent.

Living

The reason they are putting it onto as many platforms as possible is so they can have something unique to each version, and a reason for everyone to buy it.

Some people (maybe you in the past) would buy it on all of the platforms because they own all of them. But this just helps keep it interesting.

If you have played any decent action game (god of war, ninja gaiden and even dmc) it feels clunky as fuck. The controls are just awkward and it feels really disconnected. For example, you can't even cancel out of combos. You start it and if you are close to the edge you cannot stop yourself going over. This might seem like a small detail but it's one of the many things that break this game. It's crap and only Star Wars fanboys are going to buy it because they think 'ooo force awesumz!!'

It's another game where the hype is unwarranted. (kinda like Too Human) It could have been good if they polished it more and if it wasn't just another cash cow being rushed out too early.

Ok granted everyone has their opinion, but what happens when someone has played an insane amount actions games (including the ones you've mentioned) and disagrees with you about the controls feeling "clunky as fuck?" Are they stupid beyond belief, leaving you correct about your statement? Honestly, the only negative feedback I've heard about this game are from you and Eamonn. And hey if you two don't care for it that's fine, but I for one think it's a little fatuous to say the game is "broken" based on a few opinionated suggestions you came up with.

Oh by the way, you Can cancel out some combos by pressing the Block button. I thought I might throw that out there for you. Also, why on Earth are you fighting close to the edge? I hope you're aware of the fact that you can fall off and die. Try not to play close to the edge and your problem is solved.

One other thing, this game wasn't rushed at all. It's been in development for quite some time now if you actually followed the game for the past two to three years now. Way to go generalizing against the "Star Wars fanboys" too.

I've heard about a 50/50 split on negative and positive things about the game tbh. It just got 7.5 in the official Xbox magazine. The official Xbox magazine always seems to rate things higher than everyone else, so...

There are just so many things wrong with it that the only reason I could come up with for people playing it over games like Ninja Gaiden is because it's Star Wars. (though admittedly the story in NG is terrible) It kinda feels like a glorified Euphoria showcase demo tbh.

Let me clarify - I wouldn't call it a "bad" game. it just seems mediocre in every way after playing the demo. Worth a rent and no more. Don't get why people are hyped for it other than the fact that it is Star Wars.

The fact that Jedi Knight 2/Jedi Academy played better and felt more intuitive is just annoying to me. They were released how long ago? 6-8 years? They even had multiplayer, while this game doesn't even have that to save it.

I'm only posting this shit because I was pretty hyped up for this game before I played the demo (not amazingly hyped, but hyped enough to download it) and it completely dissappointed me.

If you think it doesn't feel clunky then I just don't know what to say. It isn't smooth at all to me. Targeting is screwed as well.

Also, I know it's just a demo so I shouldn't be making all of these assumptions because I haven't played the whole game yet - but companies usually put their best foot forward when putting out a demo. The plainness and simplicity of the demo is pretty concerning.

My coworker and I stayed late last night playing this on PS3 on our huge ass TV at work. It's fun so far, I guess. It's kiiiiinda boring, but I enjoyed what I played, which wasbasically only the first two levels.

Holy shit, I took the ps2 version from work to try it out (my 360 is at Microsoft at the moment, fuck you RROD) and it's like playing an entirely different, shittier game. The first level is entirely different, the whole feel of the game is different. It was gross. I vomited all over my bed and shit all over my tv, that's how bad it was.

I'm enjoying the game very much.
Already beat it and got the light side ending. Now I'm playing through it again on Sith Master, which is no joke by the way, going for the dark side ending this time. I plan on getting all the achievements too. I'm pleased that the game has replay value, at least in my opinion it does. Destroying the opposition never gets old. Plus I also like the variety of saber colors you can choose from and the different power crystals. They certainly help on Sith Master.

They gave it a 8.75 rating because that's what They think about it. Regardless if it's their job and they're getting paid for it or not. I'd trust their review more than I'd ever trust yours, that's for damn fucking sure. They also gave it an 8.75 for their second opinion for the record.

I've no clue what Sonic game you're referring to that got a 9.0 rating from Game Informer. Sonic hasn't had a great game in a while.

Game Informer gives pretty accurate reviews with game ratings.

-They gave EA's NHL 09 a 9.25. Easily the best sport's game (again) for the year. Possibly one of the best sports games ever made and certainly the best hockey game ever made.
-They gave NHL 2K9 a 6.75. Why? Because it's horrendous, any person with a pair of eyes could vouch for that awful rating it deserved.
-They gave Cock Band 2 a 9.25. Why? Because everyone and their mother loves this game and for the most part have no qualms with it. Side note: I won't say the game sucks, but I play in a Real Life rock band. I don't need to spend or waste time playing to a television screen or to fake fans. Even if I were to give a review of this game, aside from what I said in my prior sentence, I'd give it a high rating too because Harmonix did a hell of a job creating a game a mass audience wants.
-Civilization: Colonization received a 9.0. These games have always have a good record. If it ain't broke, don't fix it. Seems like they kept yet another game based on their standard creations and still get good ratings by people who know what they're talking about.

Pull out whatever crawled up your ass and died. All you ever have to say about the game is something negative one way or another. Get over it.

I have every right to defend a publication that I enjoy. I'm involved with that line of work myself. Pawned off at my local Gamestop? Ha, actually buddy, there's more than one way to get a hold of a Game Informer magazine. I'm assuming you're not that dumb to know that they're sold everywhere.

I think everyone that's come to this thread knows you played the demo and are aware of your pessimistic thoughts. YOU think it sucked, not the thousands of other people that own the game. I don't have an excuse, I have a reason to back the game up. Why? Because I think you're too blind to see the goodness this game has. You complained about the controls. Um, are you handicapped to the point where you can't adjust to some simple fucking controls? Are you that bad at action games? I'm beginning to think you are. If that's the case, then I'd suggest that you don't pick one up ever again. Do yourself a favor by heeding my words their buddy. The controls are quite simple. How hard is it to perform some combos? How hard is it to grip a person by holding the Right Trigger? How hard is it to block? To dash? To jump? etc. Now see if you had actually played the REAL game and then professed your qualms, then I'd be more interested in hearing your pessimism. But since your argument, if you even want to call it that, is based off the demo, you truly have no idea what the real game possess. You want to talk about the graphics? You saw the inside of a fucking tie fighter facility. Once again, you've never seen the rest of the game. The graphics have received quite the praise actually there chief. Might want to take off the blindfold and take a real gander at the graphics of the real game. The camera angle, when set to high, is fine. I sense a bit of deja vu as with Ninja Gaiden 2 when people said the same shit with its camera angles. If you've bothered to watch any of the video reviews, you'd know that people have said that by combining the physics engines, they're almost ahead of their time. But still bring something new to gaming. Oh and by the way, you can throw your lightsaber, but you'd have to play the real game to find that out, and not make false justifications about the demo being shitty because it didn't have saber throw. I can keep going, but I'm pretty sure by justifying my own claims and trying to get them through your head will be futile. Your premature claims are worthless.

No I think it sucks, along with plenty of other people. Including such trusted review sites such as Gametrailers, 1up, EGM and a new favourite of mine Giantbomb. But I suppose none of them compare to GI though...

Acutally if you read any gaming forums, you'd see people have the same issues I had with the game. Bad controls, bad camera, game lacks weight etc.

How'd that Star Destroyer boss go? Looked like fun!

Um, are you handicapped to the point where you can't adjust to some simple fucking controls? Are you that bad at action games? I'm beginning to think you are.

Oh no my manhood! How dare you question my (irrelevant) skill at games! I pretty well versed on action games and games in general to call bad controls when I seem them. Not that Force Unleashed has anything in common with Ninja Gaiden or DMC.

Oh and by the way, you can throw your lightsaber, but you'd have to play the real game to find that out, and not make false justifications about the demo being shitty because it didn't have saber throw.

You can do this in the demo. Hold someone with force grab and press the saber attack button.

Also, GI does have some nice early looks at games, but the magazine is produced by a company that sells games. This reeks of bias. They want you to buy every game that comes out regardless of how good it is.

Holy crap. I just bought this game, and came in this thread to find out what you guys thought of it, only to laugh my ass off for 20 minutes reading the "arguement."

Yes.

Go Boreds.

I played this for about an hour last night. I have to admit that the geek inside me was giggling with all the force powers at my fingertips. Keep in mind that the only other Star Wars game I've ever played was about 1 level of Jedi Academy. Playing as Vader was awesome.

Just got this off a friend last night, and Im stoked to sit down and play it. The demo was a lot of fun, and all I really want from this game is to use a lot of force powers to fuck shit up.

That's called "saber impale," and yes it was in the demo.
But there's a different move that's actually called "saber throw." Hold LT + Press X = pwnage :).

Glad to see a few others liking the game.
I'm just about to beat the last stage on Sith Master. That beginning room on the Death Star is fucking ridiculous.

That beginning room on the Death Star is fucking ridiculous.

You do know that you can skip that room, right?

Run over the top of the exit (to the next area) and use a fully charged force repulse. The doors rip open, and you fall through. No need to even consider trying to clear out the entire hanger bay. And on Sith Master, you really shouldn't even try.

Just finished this game after borrowing it from a friend.

Thank goodness I didnt buy it or I wouldve killed myself. It fucking is terrible. Fighting is alright, except for the fact that my level of force use changes every fucking level. Fuck this game is seriously is broken. I glitched out about 80 times in the 5 hours it took me to beat it. The camera is terrible too.

/rant

I had minimal fun with this game. I fucking love star wars, and this game was not good.

The Force Unleashed Updated to 1345
Written Thursday, July 16, 2009 by Alan Pettit

Star Wars: The Force Unleashed has mysteriously been updated with five new achievements for an additional 125 points, bringing its total to 1345.

I say mysterious, because to my knowledge there has been no DLC announced for the game since the initial batch dropped late last year. However, LucasArts is planning on making a big announcement during the Star Wars keynote tomorrow night at the San Diego Comicon, so perhaps we'll get our announcement then.

Crush 5 Jawas by using the grinder in the Garbage Processing Room

New DLC coming out. All I care about is that I get to kick the collective asses of both Obi-Wan Kenobi, and Boba Fett.

No idea when it comes out. But speculation suggests that it'll be announced during the Star Wars keynote speech at comic-con.

Is this downloadable content? Or do us "fans" have to re-buy/download the game again?
Looks like fun though. I've debated with some friends before about what would happen if the dark side won.

Tatooine is DLC. The the "Ultimate" edition comes out in the fall, with the original game, jedi temple, tatooine, and exlcusive Hoth level. Exclusive meaning you have to buy the game all over again to get Hoth. which is already pissing off people that've bought the game.
