Ignitionnight made this thread, and it needs to be revived.
The Mattress Man (for Punch-Drunk Love...a bonus feature, I suppose)

He's been good in absolutely everything I've seen him in.
I saw Charlie Wilson's War with my mom last week and he was absolutely killer in that. His opening scene in that and the scene involving the wine when he first meets Tom Hanks is as good as it gets.
And I'm seeing the Savages tomorrow with my mom. We're binging on him.
He was also terrific in Before the Devil Knows You're Dead.

Hilarious in Along Came Polly...It's weird to watch that now after he's done so many incredible films.
He reminded me a lot of John Goodman in Charlie Wilson's War, which I would consider a good thing.

I actually just finished watching Capote. He was brilliant.
But I don't think he shined in any other film more than he did as the character Dusty in the 1996 blockbuster, Twister.

I've liked him in pretty much everything.

I saw the Savages today and he was great as always in that.
He reminded me a lot of John Goodman in Charlie Wilson's War, which I would consider a good thing.
Yeah, I'd say so too.

I heard Jack Black say that he loses roles to Philip Seymour Hoffman (you could totally see Jack Black in Along Came Polly).
The other actor I like a lot that reminds me a bit of Hoffman, in a way, is Paul Giamatti.
This year, he is starring in Charlie Kaufman's Synecdoche, New York . Kaufman wrote Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, Being John Malkovich, and Adaptation. It's a comedy/drama that Kaufman is directing: A theater director (Hoffman) struggles with his work, and the women in his life, as he attempts to create a life-size replica of New York inside a warehouse as part of his new play.
Starring Catherine Keener, Emily Watson, Michelle Williams, Jennifer Jason Leigh
Doubt
Set in 1964, Doubt centers on a nun who confronts a priest (Hoffman) after suspecting him abusing a black student. He denies the charges, and much of the play's quick-fire dialogue tackles themes of religion, morality and authority.
Amy Adams, Meryl Streep
The Trial of the Chicago 7
To be directed by Stephen Spielberg
Screenplay by Aaron Sorkin (Charlie Wilson's War, West Wing, A Few Good Men)
Rumored to star: Jeff Daniels, Will Smith, Sacha Baron Cohen, Kevin Spacey, Taye Diggs, Colin Hanks

Fer real. I was looking for a movie to watch last night, and I had to watch that scene before I watched anything else. I love those two scenes, but the first scene and the argument with his boss is amazing. I love how it takes him 3 hits to break the glass hahaha.

Yeah, that scene absolutely killed me.
Is it on Youtube or something?

what movie is he in with Carrie Ann Moss I believe. Its about their parents going into a nursing home or something. I saw a preview for it awhile back but never heard anything about it after the fact
The woman was Laura Linney, and it was called the Savages.
I thought it was pretty good, but I probably won't see it again anytime soon. Very well-acted.

Excellent thread/post.
I'm very excited for these next three films he's going to be in. In particular the Charlie Kaufman flick. Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind was genius.

Ha ha.
Have you guys seen Before the Devil Knows You're Dead though? I was expecting him to get a nod for Best Actor for that, but oh well. That movie got no love whatsoever.
I like that a lot more than the Savages and Charlie Wilson's War (although his character is much more funner and easier to like in that one), although I liked the Savages.

Gotta get around to checking out The Savages. The scene in Charlie Wilson's War when he is in his boss's office is fucking priceless.

Just watched Charlies Wilson War for 2nd time. The scene when he first appears in that assholes office is probably one of my favorite movie scenes in recent memory.

his role in the devil knows your dead was definitely overlooked. he made that movie for me and how far he got from sanity as the movie progressed was really great to see. definitely a must watch.

also to note: hes one of my favoirte actors. never puts out a boring role out. in almost famous he gives one of my favorite quotes as Lester Bangs "the only true currency in this bankrupt world... is what you share with someone else when you're uncool."
