i didn't know much about the performance either until the last minute, when they finally started acting like dillinger.... and the very end had me laughing pretty hard.

Black Bubblegum
Still one of the best talk show performances of all time. So much fun stuff going on. Conan was diggin it too.
I would've preferred something more along the lines of Lurch, but I suppose that was just wishful thinking.

what?? common man, I like dillinger a lot, but that wasn't a stellar performance by any means. It was quite boring until like 1 minute from the end. I expected him to at least do a sweet scream or something to change it up, but he just growled a couple times. At first I thought they were going to make the whole thing a joke when the other track came on without them playing, but overall the end saved it. No where near "one of the best of all time" though

TALK SHOW performances. i challenge you to find better. All I can think of is ATDI on Letterman back when Relationship came out. THAT is #1.

Arcade Fire on conan in 2005 was one of my faves ever. This(as of right now from what you guys are saying) doesnt come close.

Look on the other side of the ocean to find your answer on better performances on TV ok? ATDI on Jools Holland was better then the Letterman one.
I'm going to make this into a separate thread.

i thought they'd play milk lizard. strange they picked black bubblegum

Really? I think thats the most obvious song for them to play. I think its arguably the best song on the album (with milk lizard) and definitely has the widest appeal of any song on that record. I think this song could be on someones top10 rock songs of the year list because its a song you could play to just about anyone and they could instantly like. It's tougher than most popular rock songs but it has a great melody and a damn catchy chorus all while shredding your face off with massive drums, vocals, and guitars.
Needless to say, stoked to catch this tonight...

lol @ conan with the glowstick
I always hate it when bands destroy their stuff.
Going into the crowd was hilarious and Conan was headbanging when he walked over there I swear. The glowstick was funny.

Why do you think he busted out the freaking jacked up cab? Like he doesnt wreck it all the time. And The glowstick was classic. I wonder what they talked abotu afterwards.

I think black bubblegum is the best song on the album. It reminds me so much of Faith No More, I love it. Whenever this pops up on the interwebs, please post linkage, I am very keen to see it.

That was a great performance... i was thinking they could be more energetic since they always are in their live performances and lo and behold, Greg just wandered around state.
Conan dancing in the back was hilarious ha.

Of course they played that on national TV...Geuaheghhhh...

I can't imagine them playing one if their "brutal" songs on national TV, just have to think the network put a big NO to that, black bubblegum was the only logical choice
is this up on youtube or somewhere I can watch it?
it should be up here by tomorrow.

Yeah I know.
I just got really bored watching it. A couple cute moments but it's not Dillinger and I rank every single ATDi TV performance thousands of times higher than this.

It's because you don't understand Dillinger, man. You're puny mind can't wrap around all that is DEP.
I don't know why, but I watched most of the episode very clearly, but as soon as the performance started, it began skipping every 10 seconds. Shitty. I enjoyed the performance, it was better than most that play on Conan.

sorry bros that Dillinger didn't bring the mosh and conjure up Satan.
some would say Conan raving to Dillinger is all they need to see, considering its national tv and theres restrictions on what the band can do.

people are assuming that there are restrictions, who made this decision?

you would think NBC wouldn't let them breathe fire in the studio, throw all their equipment around, or play one of their harder songs because Dillinger is so badass that they can start a riot right there in 30 Rock. Also, playing a harder song would turn off a bunch of the viewers who don't know who the band is. My friend who was watching them with me (and had never listened to the band) thought it was pretty cool... he was also hung up on how buff Greg was. Apparently that was enough for him to like the band.

Well this is a given. I'm not saying it wasn't a practical decision to play this song, but I don't buy that they weren't allowed to play anything else.

I was pretty disappointed by this performance. For one, I'm not really a dillinger fan and I haven't heard their whole catalog, but what a lackluster song. Where's the intensity and thrash of their other songs? The background singing/falsetto shit was poorly executed. I know (or at least I thought) that singing isn't really what DEP was about, but then they shouldn't even attempt. MEH

^ sorry buddy, but the singing style is the direction Dillinger has been moving more towards lately. I happen to think it makes them more dynamic and that they still bring the mosh, but i guess not everyone will dig that.

I liked it. Too much bitching.
It's a late show performance... rarely are they ever "spectacular."
The song was radio/TV friendly, that's why they played it.

That's by far the most pop oriented song on the new album, hence why they played it on national television to grasp a wider audience.

I get the vibe that they want to freak out a lot more but had to hold back, which makes the whole thing seem kind of awkward.
My only real complaint is that they really didn't need the guitarist to help with the vocals, otherwise pretty good.
