You're right, the two n00bs do feel way out of place because all 8 original World Warriors are back. C. Viper really seems like an SNK character.

The story of this game is supposed to take place between Street Fighter II and Street Fighter III. This means that The New Challengers (Super SFII) should appear in this game and probably just haven't been fully programmed yet, as well as a Street Fighter III character or two. Rumor is that Sakura may also appear, and also that the home versions of this game may have exclusive characters not in the arcade version.

A few friends and I were playing SFII on Xbox Live at our buddies house.
We set it ten stars.
The computer does not let you get very far.
It pulls off some of the most insane, impossible shit you'll ever see.

While fighting Blanka, he did a a forward barrel role in mid air. The upwards barrel role in my guys direction while he was facing the other way. I hit hiim with a shoryuken, in a split second as he landed on the ground he was doing his electricity move, full blast.

While fighting Guile, this is some fuck shit, he was walking forwards and did TWO sonic booms and a flash kick. All within about 1 to 1.5 seconds at the most, I kid you not.

One of my friends is insanely good at SFII, he could compete and go very far, but he chooses not to. He doesn't believe there's much to gain in competing in games. Anyways, he made it to M. Bison. He's beaten him before, but after drinking throughout the night M. Bison got the best of him. I forget the name of the move, it's the fire spiral tornado move he does across the screen. He did it four times in a row, back to back, with no stoppage. Not to mention he gets you dizzy real quick.

Regardless of how unbelievable the computer can be, we all found it fucking hilarious. Good times.

The final arcade version is complete.

All 12 characters from the original Street Fighter II are present, along with 4 new playable characters (Crimson Viper, Rufus, El Fuerte, Abel) and a new boss, Seth. No New Challengers from Super Street Fighter II (Fei Long, Dee Jay, T. Hawk, Cammy), which is a bit odd since this story takes place between SF2 and SF3. The console versions, available in Feb 2009, will have extra characters. Currently rumored are Fei Long and Dan.

I've had such a gnarly craving for some Street Fighter lately.

I can't find SF3 anywhere, or Street Fighter Alpha 2 or 3, so I bought Capcom vs. SNK 2 to get my fix. The disc was way scratched and the controls didn't work at all, and Gamestop has no more copies of anything Street Fighter.

I have SFII HF on XboxLive, but it's just too oldschool.

Dan and Fei Long are already said to be included. I really think, timeline-wise, all of the New Challengers (Cammy, T. Hawk, Dee Jay, Fei Long) should be in it if everyone else from SF2 is. The game takes place between SF2 and SF3 in terms of history.

tatsunoko vs. capcom looks ok but the gameplay is to slow....its not as intense as MvsC2. Morrigan specials are to slow and i hate how it now the theres like a little cut scene when they do the specials(like a close up on ryu's face) Its kind of dumb. One of the top fighting game players (Justin Wong) won the first tatsunoko vs. capcom tourny at Evo.

There's a few options. Right now you can get the Hori EX stick for the 360 for like $60, but I heard it wasn't that great. Mad Catz will be coming out with some good sticks in February which you can preorder right now.

This is the mac daddy Mad Catz Tournament Edition which will feature parts from the actual SFIV arcade cabinet. It's $150 and has limited quantity.

actually, each character has several super moves, which would be like your A-ism super moves in alpha 3, and one ultra move. The ultra gauge only fills up when you get hit, and the super gauge fills up when you do damage and moves. the super gauge can also be used to do EX versions of your specials moves, such as a two hit hadoken, by pressing two punch buttons instead of one, much like in street fighter 3.


Having played SF4 in the arcades, I don't really like how quickly the ultra gauge fills up, and how powerful the ultra moves are.

I know... I'm hopeful, though. Like I said, my 360 has had nothing short of a great life so far. I was honestly surprised that the towel trick even worked because I expected it to be a chip problem rather than solder-related simply because of the lifestyle it has led.

I've ordered a fan for it... not the old ones that leach power and melt carpets, but the Nyko Intercooler TS with the temp sensor and separate power source.

What is the "permanent fix" for the RRoD? I'm sure there's someone in the L.A. area.

Yup. It was pretty easy. This is how I did it fast.

Set the game to Easiest and 1 round wins. Beat the game with every character including the ones you've unlocked.

After you've beaten the game with every character you should have three hidden character slots still open (Akuma, Gouken and Seth).

To unlock Akuma keep the game on easiest and 1 round wins and choose Ryu (he has the easiest Ultimate move to be accurate with). Get at least 2 perfects during arcade mode and beat the game without any continues (I just kept shooting fireballs over and over again, should be cake on the easiest setting). After you have defeated Seth, you should be prompted to fight Akuma, beat him to unlock him.

To unlock Gouken beat arcade mode with 2 perfects, 3 ultimate finishes and no continues (Ryu has the easiest ultimate to finish with, it's just a huge Haduken fireball, the computer almost never jumps over it). After you beat Seth, you will have to fight Gouken, beat him to unlock him.

Once you have unlocked Akuma and Gouken, finish the game with both of them to unlock Seth.

The analog stick on the 360 controller isn't too bad if you're using Ken or Ryu type characters. Quarter circle fireballs and shoryukens aren't too bad. The problem is those pesky trigger buttons.

Congrats on picking up a couple wins. With Ken, try using medium kick through the air instead of hard kick. You can always link back to the hard sweep if you'd like, but medium doesn't knock them down and you can use it to cross-up (jumping really deep into the opponent and hitting them in the back of the head, crossing up their blocking direction and leaving them open to attacktron). This can be linked into a light it or two and a dragon punch, etc. It won't be long before you can't find anyone who doesn't see an aerial attack coming and will block and throw/counter you.

I want to learn C. Viper. She seems pretty disruptive. I won't be able to do it with this standard controller, though.

I also want to learn Zangief. His heavy shit is way easier to pull off than SFII and they all seem to have crazy priority.

I wish Dee Jay was in this game. There are slots for two more players (Dee Jay & T. Hawk) and apparently the modeling for these guys had already been started before the game went gold. Capcom is willing to release them if the fans demand. :)

What? It's a shitty strategy that can be beaten. It's called controlling space. A fireball character has a lot of good ways to do it. I'm glad you beat it. There is nothing you can do in the game that is cheap. The idea of cheapness only comes up when you are doing poorly.

Jesus Christ i'm about to chuck my xbox controller out the window. Challenge mode, normal, Guile, level 4..first challenge. Jump, heavy kick, heavy punch, sonic boom. IT WONT WORK. I can consistantly heavy kick, heavy punch and then boom, but its not counting the sonic boom! He blocks it or it hits, but its basically telling me im not quick enough. I dont think I can physically do it any quicker using this controller.

are you charging the sonic boom early? You should be holding back while your jumping and attacking, then when it comes time to sonic boom, just hit forward and punch.

You get Akuma before Seth. Also, a number of the challenges are close to impossible without a stick.

There's one guy who kept challenging me last night with Akuma. 2 challenges here, 2 there. The problem is that he actually knows how to play him really well. He's quite good at pinning, has his best combo down flawlessly, and is excellent at making me pay for any mistake. He doesn't even do the Raging Demon (he tried it once, I jump kicked him in the face). I've tried Ken against him (who I'm better than most Ken players at), and I tried Zangief, who I'm learning well. Got really close with Zangief. Ehhh... he's probably playing with a stick. I'm doing OK with the regular 360 controller generally. I finally ended up booting him. I'd lost too many points to him.

The TE uses all Sanwa parts, which is what is used in the arcades. I'd guess they are more responsive. Also, it has a turbo lock thing, so you can make sure your turbo doesn't go off in a tournament setting. Things of that nature. Shoryuken has a pretty in depth review of it. Two videos I think.

I believe it is a bit weighter as well.

I don't have that problem and I don't use the mapped triple buttons, either.

Here's a control scheme for SF that I've found useful on controllers like this since the PSX days...

Lay the kicks out across the bottom 3 buttons...
X = L. Kick
A = M. Kick
B = H. Kick

And lay the punch buttons "vertically" across the top buttons...
Y = L. Punch
RB = M. Punch
RT = H. Punch

The idea here is to get it as close to a logical strength progression as possible. You could reverse the punches, but I like having the jab (old SF talk for L. Punch) on one of the face buttons because I'll use it often and quickly, whereas the fierce (H. Punch) is usually only used once in a sequence.

I'd map the triple kick to LT because hitting all 3 kicks may be a problem without shifting your hand. Most Ultras are punch-triggered, though.

it's all personal preferance. I have light and fierce punches on X and Y respectively, same for kicks on A and B, Lb is med punch and Rb is med kick.....reason being is, when I'm using fireball charecters I like to mix up the speed on fireballs and having heavy attacks easily accessible is a must to me.


Then I just map the triple buttons to the triggers.

Light and Heavy punch on x and y, medium and heavy kick on a and b. medium punch and light kick on Lb and Lt respectively, and the triple punch and kick on RB and RT. I use the triple punch and kick for the EX versions of moves, as well as light punch plus kick x3 for throws and medium kick plus punch x3 for focus attacks.

This setup is a result of years of playing Ken and Ryu on the SNES, when i barely used medium punch or light kick so i put em on L and R.

how is the online? laggy? worth buying over halo wars, you think? big halo fan, not a huge fighting fan but this looks amazing. any input would be great
Online play is good and bad, like most games. There are near perfect lag-free games, and there are some shitty ones, but out of about 100 online matches, I've probably only had 5 laggy battles.

If you don't really like fighting games, you might still like SF4, which really does a good job of opening the previously hardcore-only elements of the game to a wider audience. However, if you're really new to Street Fighter and not familiar with quarter-circles, SRK motions, and crossup attacks, the most frustrating hours of your life might be ahead of you. Just don't take it out on the controller.

Yup. It was pretty easy. This is how I did it fast.

Set the game to Easiest and 1 round wins. Beat the game with every character including the ones you've unlocked.

After you've beaten the game with every character you should have three hidden character slots still open (Akuma, Gouken and Seth).

To unlock Akuma keep the game on easiest and 1 round wins and choose Ryu (he has the easiest Ultimate move to be accurate with). Get at least 2 perfects during arcade mode and beat the game without any continues (I just kept shooting fireballs over and over again, should be cake on the easiest setting). After you have defeated Seth, you should be prompted to fight Akuma, beat him to unlock him.

To unlock Gouken beat arcade mode with 2 perfects, 3 ultimate finishes and no continues (Ryu has the easiest ultimate to finish with, it's just a huge Haduken fireball, the computer almost never jumps over it). After you beat Seth, you will have to fight Gouken, beat him to unlock him.

Once you have unlocked Akuma and Gouken, finish the game with both of them to unlock Seth.

I've done this like 10 times now and I can't get Gouken, it's making me mad. I'm using Akuma as well.

edit: never mind, I just got it. I only had one perfect though.

I hope some of you guys understand that having a stick isn't a necessity to be good at this game. Sure, it makes certain things easier, but if you practice enough with a standard controller you can do pretty damn well.

Although you can find certain situations where it's pretty much unavoidable.




I've pretty much resorted to just using him against other people who use Akuma, or people who go STRAIGHT for Ryu or Ken....I've found most of them to be awful and I feel like punishing them for not branching out in their character selection.

I like to use his ultra just before my opponent wakes up, which seems to work almost every time.
