Did anyone else pick this up today? It's the new Xbox 360 exlusive RPG from the guy who created Final Fantasy. It basically plays exactly like any FF game, so if you are a fan of Final Fantasy and don't have a PS3, I'd recommend this game.

I played a few hours of it today and really like it, although the voice acting is already getting on my nerves a bit. Oh, its 4 freakin' discs long too.

Legend of Dragoon was so fuckin badass. I know some people on here didn't like it too much but those people suck.

I picked this up today at work, time to go play it.

I heard that was in the review copies the reviewers like Gamespot got. I've also heard that it's not true in the retail copies.

the voice acting is already getting on my nerves a bit.

The same happened for me in Blue Dragon so I just switched to Japanese audio. It helped a bit.

I seriously haven't experienced such long load times. It's like 5 seconds for every battle, 10 seconds between maps at the most. Most of the time, it seems a lot faster. I don't know if it's the person's Xbox thats causing the load times, but I seriously haven't noticed anything annoying about it. My game has been working fine.

But damn, some of the bosses are really difficult until you figure out exactly what skills you need for each boss battle, if you have the wrong ones, its close to impossible to defeat them. I'm only towards the end of Disc 1 right now, but damn, the story is starting to pick up a lot more now. And it will definitely pull on your heart strings. Some of the dream sequences are very well written (surprisingly), and you really start to connect moreso with the main guy.

Seriously, if you guys dig Final Fantasy games, pick this up now.

I love the fact that they went with old school turn based battle system with a little twist with the rings.

I love it.

I'm only up to the part where he was called into the council...some of the character models really bug me, but that's my only gripe so far.

Just got to Disc 2 last night, this game is fucking amazing. I just can't agree with most of the reviews out there. I mean, I can understand how it's not very innovative, but I feel that the story/boss battles make up for it. So far (I guess I really can't judge it completely yet), this has the best story/characters since FF7 for me.

I'm really digging those dream stories, holy shit are they sad.

man.. i really dont have time for a video game, but this one has me tempted.get it. it's already as good as ffxii was.

one of the only games by hironobu that has a badass for a main character.

and as for the load times i haven't experienced anything. the load times on bioshock and mass effect were bad to me and these don't seem long at all.

The backstory in the dreams is fucking amazing. So far; the outside story seems a little weak and I doubt it will change, but the game's a character drama anyway.

Some of the people associated with Final Fantasy worked on this game. How does it really stack up? Worth 60 bucks? I wanted to pick it up, but thought it might turn out to be another blue dragon.

If you like well written, HARD, emotionally driven games, I say buy it. I would, but I can rent for free. I almost bought it though.

Yeah, I just picked it up today, and I think it's one of the best RPG's since FFVII. I guess it's not overly innovative, as some of the newer RPG's are, but I rather enjoy this style of combat. It is pretty difficult so far, but a very well put together game all together. If you have the money, and like the Final Fantasy games, pick it up.

I cannot wait to play this. I saw the character models though, and aside from the main character and the mage guy they do seem pretty lame.. Oh well, I'm sure I can overlook it if everything else is good times.

I can't believe how emotionally stirring this game is, has some of the most moving scenes since Suikoden V. It sold pretty well aswell in the US (200k) so I hope this means good things for MistWalker.

I'm on disk 3 now and I have to say the two kids are fairly annoying. I don't understand the need to put children in the party.. Other then that, it's been a pretty fun ride.

So is this game still fairing pretty well in comparison to FF7? I'm seriously considering picking it up.

Dr. Robotnik

Everyone's biased towards FFVII. It's the best JRPG I've played in a long, long time.

I think the main point of the game is to make you as sad as humanly possible. Cooke/Mack = Palom/Porom, I'm convinced.

I just got to Disk 2, and though I think the end of Disk 1 was a bit drawn out, it was still beautiful.

I think the FFVII comparison is bit off. The game is more in line with Shadow Hearts. They have similar combat system, same mature themes and characters, same sad moments.

I'd recommend it to anyone who enjoys a good jRPG.

Dr. Robotnik
04-26-2008, 04:56 AM
Yeah, but Shadow Hearts was hilarious. The only thing funny about Lost Odyssey, is Kaim's ridiculous strand of hair in his face.

I paid 70 euros for it so yeah it's worth it. It's probaly come down in price already if you shop around a bit.

so i got this....one thing that sticks out is the music is absolutely amazing. the title theme for instance...sometimes i just sit and listen to it.

anyway, i checked up on who did the music for it, and its nobuo uematsu who of course, did the score for almost all the final fantasy titles, which explains why its so badass.

i just passed grand staff. im on that boat now, free from the cages. the boss fight at grand staff pissed me off so if you havent done it yet, i recommend getting anti-paralysis on all your chars before going at him. took me a few fights to learn the skill on everyone but it was worth it.

I never finished this game. I loved it until towards the end of the game, where some of the boss battles are so ridiculously difficult and outcomes based purely on chance, it got tiresome. If you guys have had a hard time with any of the bosses on disc 1-3, get ready to rip your hair out later on in the game. They aren't impossible, but just fucking lame that the outcome is purely based on chance (and a small one at that) that you will die in 3 turns.

Still one of the better stories (although I don't know how it ends) and better characters than most JRPGs (Fuck you Star Ocean).

hahaha, i like the fact that you have to basically do everything perfectly and even then its not entirely guaranteed that you'll win (since you cant really...overlevel in this game)

as for star ocean, well i actually got sucked into that story pretty immensely. i loved it right to the end.

Don't get me wrong, I really enjoyed 99% of Lost Odyssey, definitely one of the better RPGs for the 360. I just hope you have better luck than me at the end of it. It is nice that you are always basically equal level with all the bosses/encounters, I really liked that about this game. I'm sure you'll know exactly what part I'm talking about when you get to it; with my luck, I will perpetually be unable to beat it and you will probably do it the first time, hahaha.

I liked Star Ocean too, I'm actually on Nox Obscurus right now, I just hate so many of the characters. Bacchus, Reimi, and Arumat were cool/interesting, the rest I really didn't like. Lymle seriously killed so much of my enjoyment in that game, hahah. 'kay? And she's suppose to be fucking 15!!!! Gahhhh! I fucking hate that stupid little bitch, die in a fire!

I went out and bought this game today. I'm digging it so far. Haven't played a new rpg since ff12, and I basically hated that game even though I played it for 90 hours. this feels good so far. I like the dream sequence thing, where you get a little story time.
