We'll I'm using the browser right now. I really like the concept of it all, the individual tabs, security, and incognito mode (LOL PORN BROWSING ALL DAY, EVERYDAY). I'm pretty sure I'll end up with Chrome as my main browser but we'll see.

I played with it a little when I was at work, but now I cannot get the fucking thing to work....

It just plain up wont open or display shit. Nothing.

I think its a problem with Java on my computer. I fucked something up and a re-install of java did not fix it. Looks like I am gonna have to format my computer. I just need to wait for the vista disk. I don't want to restore using the HP recovery drive, because then I have to deal with all the added bullshit HP installed on there.

Read the fine print: http://news.cnet.com/8301-17939_109-10030522-2.html

1. Google reserves the right to automatically update and install Chrome.

This is becoming standard fare with much software these days, but worth noting.

"The software which you use may automatically download and install updates from time to time from Google. These updates are designed to improve, enhance and further develop the services and may take the form of bug fixes, enhanced functions, new software modules and completely new versions. You agree to receive such updates (and permit Google to deliver these to you) as part of your use of the services."

2. Although you retain any copyrights to content you own and use in the browser, Google says it has a right to display some of your content, in conjunction with promoting its services. Here's their exact wording.

"By submitting, posting or displaying the content you give Google a perpetual, irrevocable, worldwide, royalty-free, and non-exclusive license to reproduce, adapt, modify, translate, publish, publicly perform, publicly display and distribute any content which you submit, post or display on or through, the services. This license is for the sole purpose of enabling Google to display, distribute and promote the services and may be revoked for certain services as defined in the additional terms of those services."

3. Don't be surprised to see more ads.

Traditionally, it is Web pages and not the browser itself that serves ads. Google isn't saying it will change this paradigm, but it's terms of service don't rule that out either.

"Some of the services are supported by advertising revenue and may display advertisements and promotions. These advertisements may be targeted to the content of information stored on the services, queries made through the services or other information.

The manner, mode and extent of advertising by Google on the services are subject to change without specific notice to you."

Is there a way to change it so that it'll open downloads in say VLC instead of in Chrome? For example, when watching pr0n, it opens up the video with plugins, but sometimes it doesn't even open them at all...so I'd like to change that.

I suppose this could be moved to the computer/tech. area.

Anyways, I'm having some trouble with Chrome and Objectdock. If I click the Chrome icon on OD for the first time after turning my computer on, it loads fine. However, when I close Chrome and then try to open it again, it takes anywhere from five to ten clicks to get it to open (and then there's only one window that opens).

It's quite annoying; any advice?

So, I rejected Chrome a while ago because I heard it didn't have extensions. Well, it now has all the ones I use (autopager, gestures, weather, xmarks, and even a really great google voice extension), so I'm giving it another go.

It's remarkable. So much faster than Firefox (which is no surprise). I think I've found a new winner. The only reason I stayed with the Fox before was better extensions, but that no longer seems to be the case...

What are extensions?

I'd been using Firefox for years, but last week it suddenly became nearly unusable, offering "(Not Responding)" and locking itself up on mundane tasks, including starting up and loading my homepage after a fresh system reboot (in other words, no excuse for lack of resources). I'd clicked Chrome to make sure it wasn't some BitDefender firewall issue, but Chrome worked snappily. I've been using it ever since.

I was never a Firefox power user by any stretch, but I wanna know what these extensions are and shit, especially since I have an Android phone.

Extensions are like little applications that run in the background that customize your experience. For example, the ones I use do the following:

Autopager: (https://chrome.google.com/extensions/detail/mmgagnmbebdebebbcleklifnobamjonh) Makes it so when I get to the bottom of a page, if there is additional content, the next page loads right below it. So for example, imagine a long thread here on the boreds. When I scroll to the last reply on page 29, page 30 loads right below it so I can keep just reading and scrolling down... never having to click "next page." It's great for news stories and google search results too.

Chrome Gestures: (https://chrome.google.com/extensions/detail/jpkfjicglakibpenojifdiepckckakgk) This handy little guy lets you perform common tasks with different mouse gestures. When I right click and flick my hand to the left, it performs the "back" button on my browser. When I right click and go up + right, it opens a new tab... etc. You can customize all of these by going to tools/extensions/options.

Google Dictionary: (https://chrome.google.com/extensions/detail/mgijmajocgfcbeboacabfgobmjgjcoja) As you would probably guess, this builds a dictionary right into the browser. I double click on any word, a pop up comes up with a definition.

... you get the idea. I use a Google Voice one that puts the SMS, Call and Inbox of my GV account behind a little button up by my URL bar. There's a lot of great ones out there.

Install a few and see how you like 'em.

If you get the developer version (http://dev.chromium.org/getting-involved/dev-channel#TOC-Subscribing-to-a-channel), the bookmark manager is accessible in the tools menu (the wrench button).
